Georgia United Credit Union Foundation Announces First Educator Scholarship Recipient: Whittney LaHayne Banks County High School

Georgia United Credit Union Foundation, in partnership with Georgia United Credit Union, is excited to announce the first of five 2025 Georgia United Foundation Frank Thach EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP recipients, Mrs. Whittney LaHayne of Banks County High School. Whittney is pursuing an Education Specialist degree in Secondary Education from the University of West Georgia. LaHayne serves as the BCHS Head Volleyball Coach and is also a vital part of the CTAE Business program at BCHS. Her career goal is to prepare students to enter an ever-changing job market with practical skills.

Dalton Gilmer Named Young Georgia Author Winner for RESA

Congratulations to Dalton Gilmer, a first grader at Banks County Primary School, for being named the Young Georgia Author winner for all first-grade students in our RESA district!

Dalton’s story, “A Time I Ate My Favorite Food,” captured the judges’ hearts and earned him first place. We are so proud of Dalton for representing Banks County with creativity and heart!

Banks County High School Students Lead Digital Citizenship Lessons for Little Leopards

Earlier this semester, high school students at Banks County conducted digital citizenship lessons for primary school students. Banks County High School students included: Tatiana Bailey, Brayden Cain, Landon Dove, Zander Beck, Paige Newton, Shayna Vickery, Savannah Griffith, and Michelle Wireko.

Mrs. Wendy Collins Honored with the 2025 Philip Wright Award

Wendy Collins was honored with the 2025 Philip Wright Award for her 30 years of dedication to students. She was recognized at Mountain Education Resource Center this week by Special Education Director Nancy Bentley, Principal Will Foster, Assistant Principal Kaila Steele, and her daughter, Amber Blevins.
