Linda Hawks Named Pioneer in Education Recipient

The 2024 Pioneers in Education Awards were held on November 1, 2024, at The Venue at Cenita Vineyards. Pioneer RESA holds these awards each year.

Banks County School System named Mrs. Linda Hawks as this year's recipient.

Mrs. Hawks has dedicated 45 years of her life to Banks County Schools, where her journey began as a classroom teacher. She has since become an influential leader and mentor to students, teachers, and leaders, and most importantly, a friend to many.

She has served in multiple roles, including first-grade teacher specializing in gifted instruction, Instructional Lead Teacher (ILT), K-5 Curriculum Director, PBIS district coordinator, district coordinator for TKES, and numerous other roles within the system.

For Hawks, this journey has been about more than just academics—it has been about creating a "family" within the district.

"We are such a family at Banks County. Everyone is always willing to work together for the success of our students," Hawks shared. "We consider all areas of our students' lives, striving to make them well-rounded individuals prepared for life. She also adds that the shared vision of parents, teachers, and the Banks County Board of Education helps make Banks County Schools so special.

Hawks also described herself as a "curriculum nerd," always excited to learn and implement new strategies to help students and teachers thrive. Her passion for education has grown as she contributes to curriculum development, coordinates mental health initiatives, and supports gifted education. For Hawks, these 45 years have been supported by her family's love, especially her husband of 45 years, whom she described as "the most Godly, loving man."

The Pioneer in Education Award honors individuals whose daily commitment helps shape students and the larger community. Award recipients strive for what is best for the world, setting standards for others to follow. They are recognized for exceptional instruction, creating strong community ties, and supporting students and families during times of need.

These awards honor individuals who go above and beyond every day to support our students and staff. Whether the service is to provide exceptional instruction, to create or strengthen community support, or to lend a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on when our students and families need help, these individuals stand out in their efforts to make a difference.

To be a "Pioneer in Education" is not to strive to be the best IN the world, but to strive to what is best FOR the world. They have given us a standard that we can strive to follow, and we are honored to recognize and celebrate these individuals.
